Glenn Moyer called the meeting of the Project Grass Coordinating Committee to order at 10:39 a.m. 

 

There were no public comments.

 

The following people, counties and/or organizations and farmers were present and/or gave brief reports:

 JB gave the treasury report.  The balance on hand as of September 19, 2007 was $ in the general account.

 

A Nominating Committee was formed consisting of Dan Griffith and John Hewitt.  Futrick, McCormick and McGinnis seats are up this time.

 

JB gave an update on the DEP Energy Harvest Grant and brought in and explained the new demo pump.

 

John gave an update on the 2007 PG State Conference.

JB talked about the Outstanding Grazier for 2007.  This will be Dave Rice who has a dairy in Blair County.

 

Motion by Chris and seconded by Rich to pick up the expenses for Dave Rice attendance at the conference.  Motion approved.

 

John went over the minutes from the July 19 executive committee/counties meeting.

 

The 2008 Budget was presented and discussed.

 

Motion by Chris second by Laurel R. to go with the 2008 budget as presented.  Motion approved. (2008 approved Budget attached to these minutes)

 

Motion by Laurel R. second by Rich to leave the dues amount the counties pay at $200.00.  Motion approved.

 

A letter will be sent by John to the Districts requesting dues.

 

The $150.00 remaining in the library fund was discussed.

 

Motion by Lynn second by Laurel R. to donate the $150.00 to the conference to buy books for door prizes.  The copies that will be received by getting a multi-book discount will be placed in the Southwest Project Grass library.  Motion approved.

 

Break for Lunch

 

An open discussion was held with PA GLCI and South Central PG Chapter.

 

Lynn discussed a multi-county horse field day beaver county will be having on November 3, 2007 from 9:00am to 3:00 pm.  Lynn asked the SW PG to donate $300.00 to help with costs for this.

 

Motion by John second by Laurel R. to donate $300.00 to Beaver County to help with this field day.  Motion approved.

Purpose: 

This committee is an activity in rural development to assist farm operators in utilizing and protecting the land, according to its capability for forage production.  The purpose of this committee is to promote improved pasture systems and rotational grazing systems for better forage production, quality, and utilization.
